About Us

Advance Orthotic & Prosthetic Services, Inc. was established in 1994 by David A. Johnson. Today, we offer quality prosthetic and orthotic devices, treatment, and follow-up visits to patients. Our goal is to provide the personal attention and individualized care that seem to have been lost in larger companies.

With fully staffed facilities in Auburn and Brunswick, ME and several satellite offices, trust us for all of your prosthetic or orthotic needs. We offer a range of products, support, and guidance for pediatric and adult patients.

Defining Orthosis & Prosthesis

What is Orthosis?

Orthotics is the profession of designing, fabricating, fitting, and supervising the use of external devices that provide support for abnormal or weak joints and/or muscle groups. The need for an orthotic device is based on clinical assessment and a physician’s prescription to restore physiological function and/or cosmesis of a patient.

Certified Orthotists are specifically trained and educated to help patients restore mobility and improve their quality of life through the use of corrective, supportive, and assistive devices. These devices, called orthosis, are custom-fit, designed, fabricated, and/or modified to fit an individual’s needs, and compensate for a neuro-musculoskeletal disorder or acquired condition.

What is Prosthesis?

Prosthetics is the profession of providing or managing the use of a custom-designed, fabricated, modified, and fitted external limb or other assistive devices for patients who have lost limbs due to traumatic injury, diabetes, cancer, vascular disease, or congenital disorders. A prosthetic device restores, as completely as possible, the appearance and function of a partial or full missing limb.

Certified Prosthetists are specifically trained and educated to custom design, fabricate, fit, or modify devices to fit a patient’s needs, and replace an absent limb. Due to the vast differences in human anatomy, creating a prosthesis is a custom, intricate procedure requiring a high degree of skill combined with sophisticated technology.

About Our Practice

Facilities

Consults, molding, measuring, and fittings are performed by our practitioners at all of our locations. All fabricating is done in our Auburn facility. This allows construction of the custom orthosis to be under direct supervision of the Prosthetist, Orthotist, or Pedorthist that evaluated the patient. It also ensures quality control and that all modifications and adjustments are easily completed in a timely manner.

Billing

Our billing department is happy to assist you with your billing needs. We hope that you will understand the complexity and individuality of each insurance policy. We work with Medicare and Medicaid providers and accept many other managed care programs.

Once you have provided us with all of your insurance information we will verify insurance eligibility if needed. After you have seen our practitioner and you have a care plan going forward, our staff will bill your insurance. After we obtain approval, your orthotics or devices will be fabricated and we will call you to arrange an appointment for a fit.

If your insurance denies the request, or you have deductibles that have not been met, we will advise you of your cost of the services. We accept check or credit card for payment. Also, for your convenience, we have a partnership with CareCredit, which offers no-interest and low-interest payment plans based on your needs and budget.
