David A. Johnson, C.O., established Advance Orthotic Services in 1994. The goal of this new company was to provide quality Orthotic devices, treatment, and follow-up visits to patients in central and southern Maine. This personal attention seemed to have been lost in the larger companies.

The field of Orthotics is the profession of providing or managing the provision of a custom-designed, fabricated, modified and fitted external device to a patient based on clinical assessment and a physician's prescription for the purpose of restoring the physiological function and/or cosmesis of the patient by an allied health professional who is specifically trained and educated (Certified Orthotist). The custom designed, fabricated, fitted and/or modified device to correct, support or compensate for a neuro-musculoskeletal disorder of acquired condition is called and Orthosis. (In other words, braces for the body, excluding teeth)

The field of Prosthetics is the profession of providing or managing the provision of a custom designed, fabricated, modified, and fitted external limb device to a patient based on clinical assessment and a physician's prescription to restore physiological function and/or cosmesis of the patient by an allied health professional who is specifically trained and educated (Certified Prosthetist). The custom designed, fabricated, fitted and/or modified device to replace an absent external limb for the purpose of restoring physiological function and/or cosmesis is called a Prosthesis. (In other words, artificial arms, legs, etc..)

On-Site Production
Both our 6,000 square foot base facility, located in Auburn, and the 2,800 square foot Brunswick facility have full fabrication capabilities on site.

This allows construction of the custom orthosis to be under direct supervision of the Prosthetist/ Orthotist/ Pedorthist that evaluated the patient. This also ensures quality control and all modifications and adjustments are easily completed in a timely manner.
